EGF Peptide Solution supplies sH-Oligopeptide-1, the cosmetic name for a bioengineered epidermal growth factor. It is a colorless aqueous solution in an ammonium sulfate buffer, used at very low levels in high-end skin care.
What Is EGF (sH-Oligopeptide-1)?
EGF stands for Epidermal Growth Factor. In cosmetics it is listed as sH-Oligopeptide-1. The supplier describes it as a protein that signals skin cells to renew, supporting collagen and hyaluronan and reducing the look of wrinkles and uneven tone. It is permitted in cosmetics as a skin conditioner in the US, EU, Canada, Australia and Japan, but not in China, according to the supplier.
Key Properties
Very low use rate
The EGF concentration is 0.016% (160 mg/kg), and the supplier recommends 0.25% of the finished product, so even a small pack goes a long way.
Sensitive to acids and alcohol
EGF is deactivated in acidic environments. Avoid pH extremes and alcohol in the finished product.
Important limitation
Because EGF can promote cell proliferation, the supplier warns against use on skin with serious skin conditions (see the supplier sheet for the exact wording). Mention this in your finished product directions.
Where It Is Used
EGF is used in premium serums, ampoules, sheet mask essences and creams for mature skin, and in gentle products used after exfoliation. A common partner is KGF, and many brands add hydration from our hyaluronic acid range or soothing D-Panthenol 75%. More signal-type actives are listed in our peptides category.
How to Use
Add directly to the water phase in cold processing, or during cool-down after the emulsion has formed and cooled below 40°C if hot processing. Mix lightly and avoid high-shear mixing. Recommended usage rate: 0.25%.
Compatibility and Technical Notes
Do not combine with acids such as AHAs or with high levels of alcohol. Keep the finished product close to skin-neutral pH and check it with a meter. The solution can show white specks that settle; shake gently before weighing.
Characteristics
INCI: sH-Oligopeptide-1. CAS: 62253-63-8, 7732-18-5, 7783-20-2. Appearance: colorless aqueous solution, may be speckled with white powder which may settle. Solubility: water soluble. EGF concentration: 0.016% (160 mg/kg) in ammonium sulfate buffer.
Example: Recovery Ampoule (30 g)
Mix 27.6 g distilled water with 1.5 g glycerin and 0.06 g sodium hyaluronate and leave to hydrate. Stir in 0.3 g D-Panthenol 75%, 0.075 g EGF Peptide Solution and 0.3 g preservative suitable for neutral pH. Mix slowly without high shear and fill into a 30 mL dropper bottle.
Working With Very Small Amounts
At 0.25%, a 100 g batch needs only 0.25 g of solution. Weigh it on a balance reading to 0.001 g, or make a 10% premix in distilled water on the day of use and add 2.5 g of that premix instead. Keep EGF products in airless or dropper packaging and use them within the shelf life you confirm with stability tests.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 4°C (39°F) in the closed original container.
FAQ
Is this a powder or a liquid?
It is a colorless aqueous solution, sold by weight.
Can I use EGF with glycolic acid?
No. The supplier states EGF is deactivated by acids and is not compatible with them.
How much EGF solution should I add?
The supplier recommends 0.25% of the finished product.
