BLP Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Solution is a bioengineered antioxidant protein used in high-end skin care. It helps protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by UV exposure, pollution and other daily stress factors.
What Is BLP Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Solution?
The raw material is based on LCPeptide™ SOD. SOD has the capacity to neutralize free radicals, which are formed when the skin meets pro-oxidant agents. The SOD concentration is 0.032% (320 mg/kg) in an ammonium sulfate buffer. The INCI is Superoxide Dismutase and the CAS numbers are 9054-89-1, 7783-20-2 and 7732-18-5.
Key Properties
Antioxidant enzyme
SOD targets free radicals, one of the main sources of visible stress in the skin.
Very low use rate
Only 0.25% is recommended, so a small bottle lasts a long time.
Allowed widely
The supplier states it is allowed for cosmetic use in the US, EU, Canada, Australia, Japan and China.
Where It Is Used
Use it in daily anti-aging serums and creams, especially after exfoliation. It pairs with Vitamin E and C complex with lecithin and with Glutathione peptide powder for an antioxidant blend. See our active ingredients category for more.
How to Use
Add it directly to the water phase in a cold process, or during cool-down after the emulsion has cooled below 40°C (104°F) in a hot process. Mix lightly and avoid high-shear mixing. The recommended use rate is 0.25%.
Compatibility and Technical Notes
Avoid extremes of pH and alcohols. As a protein, the enzyme is sensitive to heat, so keep it cool during processing. This is a raw cosmetic ingredient for cosmetic use only.
