Tetrapeptide-30 Solution is a peptide liquid developed to help balance the look of skin tone. It is colorless, clear and viscous, carried in glycerin and water, and dissolves easily into water-based products.
What Is Tetrapeptide-30?
Skin brightening actives work in several ways: by reducing tyrosinase activity, by limiting melanin transfer or by calming melanocyte activation. The supplier states Tetrapeptide-30 is thought to work by reducing tyrosinase and limiting melanocyte activation. In the supplier’s in vivo studies, run at 2.5% of the solution, it reduced yellow tone from week 4, faded the look of age spots after 8 weeks and improved evenness of tone after 4 weeks. The supplier also notes that combining it with sodium ascorbyl phosphate improved its performance.
Key Properties
Tone-evening peptide
A peptide alternative to classic brighteners for products about dark spots and uneven tone.
Works with vitamin C derivatives
The supplier specifically mentions better results with sodium ascorbyl phosphate.
Suitable for all skin types
The supplier describes it as active on all skin types and gives ethnic skin care as an application.
Where It Is Used
Uses include brightening hand creams, serums for age spots, décolleté products, even-tone day creams and ethnic skin care. For an antioxidant partner, look at our vitamins range; for extra hydration, add Oleo-HA oil-dispersed hyaluronic acid to the oil phase. Other peptides for tone and texture are in our peptides category.
How to Use
In oil-in-water emulsions add it during cooling below 40°C (104°F), or directly to the water phase in cold-process products. In water-in-oil emulsions add it before homogenization below 30°C (86°F), or directly to the water phase in cold processing. Recommended usage rate: 0.5 to 5%.
Compatibility and Technical Notes
Peptide content is 1600 ppm. The liquid is viscous, so weigh it rather than measure it by volume. It is suitable for both O/W and W/O systems as described above. Do not apply the raw material directly to skin.
Characteristics
INCI: Tetrapeptide-30, Glycerin, Water. CAS listed by supplier: 56-81-5 (glycerin); no CAS given for Tetrapeptide-30. Appearance: colorless, clear, viscous liquid. Peptide content: 1600 ppm.
Example: Even-Tone Hand Cream (100 g)
Heat 70 g distilled water with 3 g glycerin to 75°C. Heat 15 g shea-based emollient blend and 5 g emulsifying wax to 75°C, combine and homogenize. Below 40°C add 2.5 g Tetrapeptide-30 Solution, 2 g sodium ascorbyl phosphate pre-dissolved in 1.5 g water and 1 g preservative. Mix until smooth.
Storage
For long-term storage the supplier recommends 4°C (39.2°F).
